Steven Stucky Wins a Pulitzer Prize

Steven Stucky won a Pulitzer Prize this year for his "Second Concerto for Orchestra." He wrote the piece in 2004, and it was premiered by the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

The composer is rewarded for a "distinguished musical composition of significant dimension by an American that has had its first performance in the United States during the year."

Stucky received $10,000 in cash along with the award. The jurors for the music category this year were Gunther Schuller, Christopher Rouse, Muhal Richard Abrams, Mark Swed, and David Zinman.

Other finalists in the music category included "Dialogues" by Elliott Carter, and "You Are" (Variations) by Steve Reich.

The Pulitzer Prizes will be awarded at a luncheon at Columbia University on May 23.
